Programme itinerary

Friday

We will gather at Derby Cathedral at 1 pm for a lunchtime recital.  If you are not familiar with Derby Cathedral, you are in for a pleasant surprise.

This will be followed by a coach trip to Repton School, where we will enjoy a recital from some of the pupils and some refreshments. Director of Music, Oliver Walker, will talk to us about music at the School and about the origin of the hymn tune 'Repton'.

Back in Derby, we shall attend Choral Evensong sung by the Boys and Lay Clerks.

Saturday

On Saturday morning, we will hear from Alexander Binns, Director of Music at Derby Cathedral and his wife Dora will join him for a recital (organ and violin).  There will also be tours of the cathedral and an opportunity to visit the Chapel on the Bridge or climb the Tower.  The Friends' Annual Meeting will take place at the Cathedral in the afternoon.  The three-course Gathering Dinner will be held at the nearby Grade II listed Cathedral Quarter Hotel.

Sunday

We will attend Sung Eucharist with the Girls and Lay Clerks, followed by a buffet lunch in the beautiful Italian Mill, part of the newly opened Museum of Making, just behind the Cathedral.  The event room overlooks the River Derwent and can be accessed through the spectacular new glass atrium.  The Museum has free entry and is well worth a visit.

During the afternoon there will be an opportunity to hear from Composition Competition winner, Alison Willis, and from Hugh Morris, Director of the Royal School of Church Music, before we enjoy a festal Choral Evensong featuring the Full Choir and the first performance of the new Derby Canticles.  This will finish at approximately 6.15 pm.
