OUR GRANTS

Our grants help maintain and develop the work of choral foundations across the UK.

Since its foundation in 1956, Friends of Cathedral Music has given over £4 million in grants to Choral Foundations.  Cathedral Music Trust seeks to continue and expand this work.

The impact of our grants

Eligibility criteria

A choral foundations can apply for a grant if:

  1. It is a place of Christian worship of a recognised denomination from the UK or Republic of Ireland (e.g. cathedral, minster, collegiate chapel, church)
  2. It promotes the performance of cathedral-style choral repertoire
  3. It sings a regular pattern of at least three choral services most weeks during term time (e.g. Evensong, Matins and/or Eucharist) and other services throughout the year

 The application process opens in September and the deadline for all our grants is 30 November each year.

Revenue Grants for Core Funding

The global pandemic has put considerable strain on the finances of cathedrals, churches and other choral foundations. For this reason, we have introduced a Revenue Grant stream to help fund core costs for choral foundation music departments in the UK and Republic of Ireland.

SMALL REVENUE GRANTS


Exclusively for the benefit of cathedral choristers and intended for specific projects, such as voice/instrument training and recruitment/outreach.

Edington Festival

EDINGTON FESTIVAL AWARD 


An annual award to support choristers’ vocal training, generously provided by the Edington Music Festival.

The Tony Harvey award for male choral scholars in English Cathedrals

ENDOWMENT GRANTS

To support (for example) chorister scholarships, instrumental tuition and voice training, organ scholarships and funding for adult choral scholarships.

To help with the purchase of equipment such as rehearsal pianos and choir stalls for a song school, music and robes.
