A statement on Winchester Cathedral

Read the latest news from Cathedral Music Trust

Cathedral Music Trust has issued a statement in support of Winchester Cathedral following the Bishop of Winchester’s announcement that an independent investigation be undertaken into recent concerns affecting the cathedral’s choir and music.

Jonathan Macdonald, Chair, Cathedral Music Trust, said:

“Like many in the Winchester Cathedral community and beyond, we have been very concerned about recent developments in relation to the choir and music. We therefore welcome the independent review announced by Bishop Philip Mounstephen and the appointment of Dr Andrew Lucas as interim Director of Music. As the leading charity supporting cathedral choirs and musicians in the UK, the Trust hopes that this review will be conducted swiftly. We are ready to offer advice and guidance on a way forward so that all involved can work towards Winchester continuing to be one of the nation’s, and the world’s, leading cathedral choirs.”

The Trust’s Chair has written to the Dean of Winchester today offering the Trust’s advice and guidance.
