Cathedral Music Trust Annual Conference 2026: Exploring the Impact of Cathedral Music on Educational Outcomes

Our Conference Returns

Following the success of our 2024 conference, we are delighted to announce the return of our annual conference at Drapers’ Hall, Coventry, on 17-18 September 2026.  This year’s theme, The Impact of Cathedral Music on Educational Outcomes, brings together researchers, educators, musicians and policymakers for what promises to be an inspiring and thought-provoking gathering. Together, attendees will explore everything from widening access and working with schools, to the profound impact this work can have on individuals and communities.

We will be joined by an exciting line-up of speakers, offering a rich range of perspectives on education in the cathedral music sector from the National Schools Singing Programme to St Paul’s Cathedral. Attendees will hear keynote speeches from Simon Toyne from the David Ross Education Trust, Dr Rebecca Berkley from the University of Reading, Andrew Carwood MBE and William Bruce from St Paul’s Cathedral, and James McEvoy-Stevenson from United Learning. They will be joined by researchers and practitioners presenting papers that will spark fresh ideas, lively discussion, and meaningful conversation between delegates.

On the evening of the 17 September, participants will be treated to a service of Evensong sung by the joint choirs of Coventry Cathedral and Holy Trinity Church a fitting and uplifting complement to the themes explored throughout the conference. This will be followed by a drinks reception and dinner, with an after-dinner speech from acclaimed choral conductor and music educator Suzi Digby OBE, offering a wonderful opportunity for like-minded attendees to connect, reflect, and build new relationships.

This year’s conference builds on the Trust’s wider commitment to supporting the long-term sustainability of the cathedral music sector. By nurturing the talent of today’s young musicians and championing the role of cathedral music in education, we can help shape a vibrant and enduring future for this remarkable tradition.

Be part of something bigger, a community helping to shape the future of cathedral music’s role in education.
