Music leaders gather for Small Sounds training

Read the latest news from Cathedral Music Trust

Ahead of the programme’s launch in the Autumn, music leaders from five cathedrals across the UK attended two days of training at Hinsley Hall in Leeds with The Family Music Hub.

Small Sounds aims to establish free, weekly cathedral-based music groups to introduce the joy of singing to 0-5 years olds, helping those children take their first steps on a lifelong journey of musical discovery.

Part of the project includes training music staff – developing their skills and expertise in leading music with early years children and their families, so that they are fully equipped to run Small Sounds in their cathedrals. The Trust has also committed to supplying resources, such as instruments and puppets, and offering support with recruitment and publicity.

To deliver the training to our new music leaders, we are working in partnership with The Family Music Hub. Founded in 2021 by Rosie Adediran, Nicola Burke and Katie Neilson, with a shared desire to place families at the heart of music sessions, to connect practice and research, and to improve musical experiences for young children and their families.

The first sessions of this new project will begin in the early Autumn at Chester, Derby, Newcastle, Rochester and Middlesbrough cathedrals. If someone you know might like to attend the sessions, please get in touch with the cathedral directly.

If you would like to discover how you can support Small Sounds, please contact our Development Director by emailing [email protected] or phoning 020 3151 6096.
