We thank outgoing trustee Jason Groves as we welcome James Gurling OBE onto the board

Thank you and welcome

We’re indebted to Jason Groves, as he steps down from our board after six years as a Trustee. Vastly experienced in media relations and PR, Jason supported the organisation through its transition from the Friends of Cathedral Music to the newly incorporated Cathedral Music Trust. He also helped steer the organisation through the unnavigated waters of the pandemic, working with fellow Trustees, The Ouseley Church Music Trust and the Church Commissioners to react to need and produce the Cathedral Choirs’ Emergency Fund. We are enormously grateful to Jason for his tremendous commitment over the past few years, and are pleased he will remain as an Adviser to the Trust. We wish Jason all the best as he takes up the reins as Master of the Company of Communicators.

We are delighted to announce that James Gurling, a past Master of the same Company and a current member of the Trust’s Development Committee, will join the Board as a Trustee with a focus on marketing and communications. A former chorister at Southwark Cathedral, James works for PR agency MHP Group where he is Executive Chairman of Public Affairs. James has also served 12 years as a local councillor with responsibility for Communications and Planning and was made OBE for services to politics in 2015

“It was a huge privilege for me to have been a chorister at Southwark Cathedral where I learnt very early the liberating and empowering impact cathedral music has on the lives of the young and old alike. I am very much looking forward to contributing further to the important work of the Trust in supporting cathedral music and musicians.”
