Three Choirs School Group
Hereford Cathedral School, The King’s School, Gloucester, and The King’s School, Worcester, have announced that they have joined forces to form the Three Choirs Schools Group. The new initiative aims to generate ‘enhanced academic, pastoral and co-curricular opportunities’ for students at the three schools, and ‘deeper professional collaboration’ for teaching staff.
Comprised of three of the country’s oldest cathedral schools, each working closely with their respective cathedrals, the group will present ‘joint enrichment events, challenge days and musical collaborations’ for a total of 2,660 students aged 2-18. Staff across the three schools will benefit from shared subject networks, training and curriculum development.
Hereford Cathedral School executive headmaster Dr Michael Gray said:
‘This partnership represents an exciting new chapter for our schools. By working together, we can strengthen our cathedral foundations and deliver exceptional education in a rapidly changing world.’
The King’s School, Worcester’s head of foundation Ben Charles added:
‘Our shared heritage and values give this partnership real purpose. By collaborating, we can broaden opportunities for pupils and staff and ensure each school continues to flourish.’
The new partnership builds on existing close relationships between the three schools based on their geographical connection, shared cathedral heritage and strong musical and choral traditions. Through joining forces, the three schools aim to ‘flourish’ during a time of ‘significant change’ in the independent education sector.
All schools will remain independent, keeping their own financial and legal status, governance, staff, leadership and curriculum, but the group has confirmed it will ‘explore opportunities for operational efficiencies’, and any savings generated by the partnership will be reinvested directly into the student experience.
David Morton, headmaster of The King’s School, Gloucester, said:
‘Launching this group during our 485th anniversary year highlights both the strength of our tradition and our forward-looking vision. We are delighted to deepen our partnership with Hereford and Worcester.’
