Anna Lapwood announced as new Ambassador for Cathedral Music Trust

26 September 2022

The Cathedral Music Trust has today announced the appointment of Anna Lapwood as its new Ambassador. In this role, Anna will promote the Trust's work sustaining and developing this invaluable part of the country’s cultural heritage and nurturing the next diverse generation of choral singers and organists. She will join Alexander Armstrong, who became an Ambassador for the Cathedral Music Trust in 2021.

Anna is an organist, conductor, and broadcaster, and the Director of Music at Pembroke College, Cambridge, where she conducts the Chapel Choir, the Girls’ Choir, and runs the Cambridge Organ Experience for Girls. In 2022 she was appointed Associate Artist of the Royal Albert Hall and Artist in Association with the BBC Singers. A strong advocate for music education at home and abroad, she specialises in bringing music to children from impoverished backgrounds. She leads the music exchange programme of the Muze Trust, a charity that works to make music accessible to children and young adults in Zambia. Anna’s passion for the organ is matched by her mission to support girls and women in music.

Anna Lapwood said: “I am thrilled to become an Ambassador for the Cathedral Music Trust. I strongly believe in the transformative power of music and the importance of musical opportunities for all. In recent years, the Trust has positioned itself not just as a provider of financial aid to choirs in need, but also as integral to conversations around participation, education and excellence, and I am really excited to work with them to consider how we balance the need for innovation with the beauty of tradition.”

Alexander Armstrong said: “On behalf of the Cathedral Music Trust and its many supporters I am delighted to welcome Anna Lapwood as our new Ambassador. Anna inspires so many young musicians, and her commitment to opening up opportunities for all members of our community is evident in every aspect of her life and work. This is what makes her such a wonderful champion for the Cathedral Music Trust and all it stands for. I can’t wait to work with her.”
